The morose title track quickly caught our ears with its loosely assembled piano samples, ghostly vocal pieces, and scattershot percussion. – XLR8R
When I Fall EP by Zeadron
Up-and-coming Southern California producer Zeadron follows up his highly praised first release on Rebel–Hold My Hand? No–with the equally diverse When I Fall EP. With remixes from Budapest duo Headshotboyz and Chicago-based Savile, the three-track EP has something to offer for everyone across the electronic spectrum.
Jack Heffron–producing a mature blend of electronica, dubstep, garage, house and everything in-between that feels much riper than his age–has returned to Rebel for his latest output, When I Fall EP. His original mix, a six minute odyssey through a diverse stream of clever and expertly blended samples, borrows vibes equally from the melancholy and the euphoric. Breaking sparseness down and introducing a thick layer of bass, drums and a feel-good synth line that would make Joy O proud, Zeadron successfully navigates through a multitude of emotions with restraint that marks a producer to watch for many years to come.
Hungary’s Headshotboyz and Chicago-based Savile, also longtime friends of the label and magazine, have contributed two distinct but cohesive mixes of Zeadron’s original. Headshotboyz, self-described “genre haters,” indeed challenge any listener to categorize their unique percussion and syrup-drizzled beats into any one box. Savile, meanwhile, whose geographical roots lie in Detroit and Chicago, melds his cities’ techno and house foundations in a smooth rendition of the track with warm, thumping bass and woozy synths. Together with Zeadron’s original, the tracks cumulate into a must-have release of everything the exciting movement of contemporary electronic music has to offer.
