Signed to the Steve Aoki imprint Dim Mak Records, Robert Raimon Roy (formerly known as Rob Roy) is back with a slightly altered stage name and the first single off of his third album, Le Tigre Blanc. Directed by Peter J. Brant, the video for “Little Egypt Wavy” channels an overplayed 90s VHS tape marked by wobbly frames and severed film strips.
The track is a hybrid musical ode focused on the singular topic of love. Defined by two distinct influences, the first half features jolting half-raps over a trippy bass line. A change in tone occurs two minutes in as church organs introduce Roy’s Timberlake-inspired ballad that reiterates the hook “so wavy for you.” Everything slows down as Roy’s pipes hit auto-tune enhanced notes and the camera centers in on the woman holding his gaze. “Little Egypt Wavy” solidifies Roy’s status as a genre-spanning force – switching between breakneck rap and soulful croons with complete ease. Make sure you keep an eye out for Le Tigre Blanc, currently slated for a late 2011 release.
