Review: Urulu “Goodbyes” EP

Following on from a smashing debut EP which featured remixes from the likes of Prince Club and Damu, Los Angeles based Urulu has delivered his second release entitled Goodbyes via the Los Angeles/Miami based petFood imprint. The EP consisting of four Urulu originals is a bold follow up to his debut, this time around digging beneath the surface and offering a deeper set of grooves. The release shows a lot of maturity, Urulu putting his own stamp on a sound that you’d otherwise associate with 90s house music defined by it’s soulful vocal stabs. Standouts on the record include ‘Everyday’, which features some nifty Julio Bashmore-esq synth work, while title track ‘Goodbyes’ meanders through sultry female vocals and walk-in drops. A young producer with a lot of talent, Urulu’s fast developing a name for himself, and with two EPs under his belt already this year, we look forward to hearing a whole lot more from him. You can gab the release exclusively over on beatport.
