The developing sounds of Black Atlass, a dream-heavy electro project based out of Southwestern Ontario, is destined to jump to the top of your hype list. These hypnotic instrumental bliss-outs are piloted by a 17-year-old musician named Alex Fleming. Having little information to go on, Black Atlass’ twitter feed reveals that these instrumentals are presently unfinished as Fleming is in the midst of writing lyrics to go along with them. Holding up incredibly well on their own, it will be interesting to see how these celestial compositions transform with the integration of vocals.
The two tracks Fleming let slip prove to be deceptive when initially triggered. “Dreams” expands out of a fleeting lush echo that turns into waves of unsystematic synth rumbles and neon bleeps over deep drums and bass. “She Know” starts off as a relaxed R&B groove before it descends into an aggressive back and forth between synth hisses and spry tremors of electro. Hold onto these floating rhythms until Black Atlass’ upcoming EP drops, which will surely see these allusions to Flemings’ style more fully formed.
