For all the Rebel readers who dig the deeper sound of bass, you’ve probably already heard of the hype surrounding Outlook Festival in Croatia going down this September 1-4.. Now in its fourth year, the festival draws an unparalleled caliber of artists from the dubstep, dub, reggae, hip hop, grime, drum & bass, jungle, house, garage, techno, electronica & beats subsets of the larger global bass community, housed over four days in an abandoned Roman fort on the Adriatic coast.
Following my unreal experience at the festival last year, I imagined it would be hard for the festival organizers to pull out the stops even further and top-up what was already the greatest collection of bass music to ever happen in one place. I’m talking world-class producers playing simultaneous sets in various areas of the fort–the dungeon, the ballroom, the outside area, and two perfectly dilapidated courtyards–with booming sound systems, boat parties swaying along with the beat, and thousands of attendees skanking in one large exodus of sound. Looks like there were a few more tricks up the organizers’ sleeves, though.
Here’s what you can expect for 2011 so far, with promoters promising approximately 100 artist additions to come and the announcement of 30 (THIRTY!) boat parties over the course of the festival. Stay tuned on the Outlook website for more information on the full line-up as well as FAQ on accommodation, travel and tickets. At £119–approximately $170 US dollars–it’s a bargain for a festival of its nature, with a backdrop that blows any American camping atmosphere out of the water. Speaking of water, enjoy access to the turquoise Adriatic, sipping one of the festival’s fantastic alcoholic smoothies at midday, while listening to the grooves of DJs live on the sand just steps away from the campsite. Counting down the days!

While you’re at it, take a look at the spankin’ new video from festival favorites Gentleman’s Dub Club. I hadn’t heard of them until it was love at first sight with the lineup poster last year, but they electrify live performances like I’ve never seen. Another soldier for the Ranking Records brigade of fantastic music, the interview I had with them at the fest remains the most fun I’ve ever had during a Q&A session and that positive attitude reflects on everything they put their name on. Big up GDC, hope to see you Stateside soon!
