Album Review: Martyn / Mike Slott – Collabs # 1

Martyn / Mike Slott – Pointing Fingers (clip)

“Going backwards to go forwards,” says All City Records in reference to the first edition of recently debuted, 18 month old, collaboration project #1. The label, spanning its network of over two dozen artists; from the glitched out production work of Hudson Mohawk, to the smooth, west-coast rolled melodies of Frenchman Onra, to the half-timed hip hop beats of Los Angeles based Samiyam, All City has played an instrumental part in connecting intelligent electronic music to the world. As for the quote, I’m sure it didn’t take long to digest, I mean… all you had to do was listen.

“All Nights,” the first single from the freshly formed twosome of Martyn (3024), and LuckyMe co-founder,  Mike Slott, murmurs though a naturally house rooted template, while the flip single, “Pointing Fingers,” texturizes the compilation with reverberating orchestral work and vintage record static. Mind you all, these both were composed with surprisingly no in-person studio time. Hang tight till January 25th to grab your own copy of this undoubtedly timeless EP. Original over art by Steve Serrato.
