Abel – Skipping Puddles

His subtle manipulation of voices over textures that seem to gleam and sparkle is perhaps his greatest strength, but his treatment of the medium as a whole is perhaps what he will be known for. – Crack In The Road

Skipping Puddles by Abel

This debut release from Abel is an exemplary package of happy mediums. Better stated, this young producer has a surprisingly refined touch that straddles the lines between organic and electronic with impressive results. The original mix, clocking in just under 2:30, is short but memorable beyond its seconds, pairing nimble chimes with fuzzy vocal samples and trailing off with a quiet dissipation into sparse drums and far-off synth. The remixes add different perspectives to the “Skipping Puddles” breeziness; Lapalux’s subaqueous texture and Obey City’s extra shot of bass and sparkle are both inspired and strong as stand-alone releases. As a package, however, the three tunes are a balanced, light-footed slice of beats perfect for a springtime session.
